Show of hands, if I stopped over at your house right now with a coat on would you offer to take it from me and throw it in your closet yourself or would you excitedly open your closet and humbly brag when my jaw drops at how organized it is? Oh this? Just a little something I threw together, no big deal. A few weeks ago I would have never opened up my closet for the world to see but that was before I spent a little time getting to know the Rubbermaid® HomeFree Series™.
For a mid-century house we have a lot of storage. We have a huge mudroom/laundry room, a walk in pantry, and decent sized closets in every room {and I have clothes hanging in each one, another post for another day}. However our entryway closet that is right next to our front door quickly became a catch all for not just coats and appliances but tools, junk, and everything else. Knowing that my poor closet was not realizing its full potential I decided to give it a quick {and easy! and inexpensive!} makeover with the help of my handy assistant, Ken.
We started by measuring our closet and plugging the dimensions into the Closet Design Tool. From there we decided that the Rubbermaid HomeFree Series 4 to 8 Foot Kit would best suit our organizational needs. I also added a Shoe Cubbie to the configuration because we are always in desperate need of shoe storage. The design tool was super easy to use and after we completed our configuration it linked us directly to the products we needed to purchase at Lowe’s.
The closet kit itself took about an hour to install and configure. We also painted the closet white so we added some extra time to our project but it was worth it. My favorite part about using the Rubbermaid HomeFree Series was truly how easy it is to customize. The shelves, hanging rods, and even the shoe rack can be moved up, down, or around just by unhooking them from the uprights that you see in the back of the closet. So in the winter when we need more hanging space we can add a longer rod {that came with the kit} to hang more coats and move the shelf that the camera bag is on down lower, or even to another spot entirely.
Having this level of organization allows us to get out of the house super quickly. I intentionally themed the closet around grab and go items that we use during the summer. That way I know where everything I need is and as we start to transition to fall I can swap out the chalk, bubbles, and beach towels for our scarves, gloves, and heavier boots.
Do you have a closet or storage space that is in desperate need of organization? I’d love to hear!
Rubbermaid HomeFree Series is a uniquely flexible closet system where shelves expand by overlapping, so you can use every inch of your closet without having to cut the shelves. There is no cutting necessary! All of the mounting hardware is including for easy installation. It is made of white epoxy-coated steel. Hang rods telescope, allowing the flexibility to adjust your hanging space as needed, and with adding on shoe shelves, cubes and drawers, you can truly make the most of your space!
Is this a customised closet and your the one who designed it?
