The day I’ve been waiting for has finally come. Shake Shack, the New York food cart turned cult favorite international chain, opens in Detroit t-o-d-a-y!
We were invited to a friends and family day on Tuesday and it basically made my whole life. Apparently one of the members of the Shake Shack marketing team caught wind of my crazy enthusiasm and decided I qualified as a friend and/or family. I actually ended up convincing Ken to ditch work early, we picked up Annabelle from school, and headed straight to the shack {I can call it the shack}.
The event was really top notch. The location is amazing, it’s in the First National Center right next to Campus Martius park and is going to be jam packed in the summer {and really probably every day throughout the year}. I might need to start a campaign to move my office to the First National Building, more to come on that.
The staff was so sweet to us. It probably helps that we take an adorable two year old with us most places but I really think they enjoyed Ken and I as well. At one point I mentioned Annabelle’s nut allergy when we were ordering and the Shake Shack crew went above and beyond to get her a cup of frozen custard from a machine that had been specially cleaned to ensure no cross contamination. As her mom I don’t even go to those lengths, so their care and concern really went a long way with us.
A few people have asked me why I’m so excited about a burger joint opening. For me this is another win for our great city. With locations in places like New York, Chicago, Washington DC, and even two restaurants in South Korea it’s exciting to think that they chose to expand to Detroit. Of course the people who live here know what a true gem our city is but getting recognition from global brands is a really high compliment. It’s an exciting time to be a Detroiter.
Thanks for picking us, Shake Shack. We’re so happy to have you and I’m making it my personal mission to try every shake on your menu!
My jacket is from SheIn {under $30!} and definitely one of my new favs for spring!
Are you planning to go to the new Shake Shack? I’d love to hear!
