I’m so excited to share our freshly updated sunroom today! In preparing for this post I really struggled with what to call this room. Options included sunroom, sun parlor, sun porch, patio room, and Florida room. Ken actually calls it our Florida room but since we live in Michigan and we can really only utilize it a few months a year I don’t think that name makes sense. So sunroom it is. Anyway, on to the good stuff and be sure to read to the bottom for a fun giveaway from Pier 1!

As I always like to start, here are a few before photos. This room was crucial to preserving our sanity during our major home renovation last year. It served as our family room when our flooring was being installed and our kitchen and dining room when those spaces were being completely gutted and rebuilt. However once those rooms were completed and livable again this room started to collect junk. Since it’s screened in it’s a space we utilize during the late spring, summer, and early fall which in Michigan is really only about 4 months time. As we started to think about house projects for the year it was a priority to get this room cleaned up in May so that we could use it to its full potential.

The white door leads into our family room.

Knowing that we really only had one weekend to update the room and that we had a very small budget to work with I had to focus on what was critical to completing the space. For me that included:

  • Removing the blue carpeting
  • Painting the exposed brick white
  • Creating a comfortable seating area
  • Adding inexpensive decor elements that would make a big impact
  • Keeping a neutral color palette

To help me nail down the look I was going for I looked for inspiration at one of my favorite stores, Pier 1. I was immediately drawn to this rug which helped me start to finalize the colors for the room. I loved that it didn’t look too much like an outdoor rug but knew it would be durable enough to survive all of our seasons.

I also loved the idea of adding a garden stool as an accent table. This one seemed simple and modern which fit our space perfectly.

How dreamy is this lantern? I can’t wait to watch it flicker while sitting outside during those warm summer nights.

Please say a little prayer for this succulent and really all of the plants I added to complete the space. I’m hoping since they’re outdoors they have more of a fighting chance.

Don’t worry, the cactus is not picky. Perfectly toddler friendly!

Do you have an outdoor space that you love spending time in? I’m excited to be giving away a $100 gift card to Pier 1 that you can use to get your home ready for summer entertaining! For your chance to win, please visit Pier 1 and leave a comment below letting me know which item from their outdoor collection is your favorite. Looks like a versatile space for entertaining and relaxing! We are moving into a new house with a sunroom and I would love a few outdoor papasan chairs. We bought one for Carter’s bedroom and it’s the most comfy room in the house. A swing could be fun too.

We live in a small condo, but my husband loves gardening so he volunteered to be the Chairman of our 1-person Garden & Grounds Committee and that means he gets to dig dirt, plant bulbs and grow a gorgeous assortment of blooming plants, ferns and succulents in a 4′ x 20′ strip of garden that adjoins our property along an alley. Our neighbors love it for the color and life it brings to the neighborhood and the butterflies and bees (one of our neighbors has a rooftop hive) love it, too. I’d pick the Scroll Copper Plant Stand — actually, I pick 2 of them — because we have the perfect spot for them to frame a brick walkway and provide some vertical variety to our little garden.

I love the 7′ Chili Aluminum Tilting Umbrella. Crazy story, last year we bought a green patio set. Within a month it turned orange from the sun. I actually like the orange color better and now we are looking for an umbrella to match.

I love the strings lights hanging behind the couch. The indoor plants are looking great in the corner of the window. What kind of carpet you used beneath the table in grey colour. The hanging white pot is another useful piece to enhance beauty. The rectangular rattan table is also ideally placed.
