pregnancy post: 10 outfits to wear in your first trimester

If you’ve endured a first trimester of pregnancy you know that it’s quite different from almost anything you’ve experienced when it comes to being a functioning member of society while keeping the largest secret of your life all the while trying to stay awake and managing not to puke in public. Fun times I tell you, fun times. While I don’t have much advice on combating the very common first trimester symptoms like fatigue, nausea, and bloating, I can offer some help when it comes to dressing that {very tiny} bump! Here’s a recap of ten outfits I wore during my first trimester that maximized comfort and camouflaged my changing body.

Oversize sweaters (or shirts, if your bump starts to appear in the spring or summer) are your new best friend. So are hats, because trust me the longer you can extend the life of your blowout the longer you can sleep in the morning. Up until about 10 weeks high waisted jeans were still fairly comfortable for me so I tried to wear my favorites as often as possible.

This outfit is known as fake it ’til you make it. Throw on a pop of color, put a cute hair accessory in and make sure there is some leopard and studs involved. Bonus points if your husband offers to buy you a decaf peppermint mocha latte for getting out of the house.

I must say, dresses are always my first choice and that’s definitely true in every stage of pregnancy. I loved this one because it was just over-sized enough to hide a bump but the sleeve and neckline detail made it interesting. Plus a statement earring helps distract from how crappy you probably feel.

Scarves are another great accessory for hiding your little pooch. I love these leggings because they’re great for before/during/after pregnancy and the moto detail is great.

This photo was taken at 9 weeks, right around the time jeans {or anything that buttoned} became uncomfortable. This pair lasted the longest because it was mid-rise and had some stretch to it. As my clothes become too tight I move them into another closet in our spare room so it’s easier to see what I’m working with when getting dressed.

I wore quite a few oversized t-shirts during my first few months of this pregnancy. They were intentionally larger than I’d normally wear but no one suspected anything.

When my jeans did start to get tight I found it easier to do a front tuck than leave something untucked. It drew less attention to the bump and just looked like the way I’d commonly style an outfit. Bonus points for silver pumps.

I absolutely love this shirt dress and know quite a few non-pregnant friends that feel the same way. I wore it almost weekly from Thanksgiving to Christmas and still love it today. As the bump grows I can accessorize it with a belt to accentuate rather than conceal.

Sometimes there’s no other way to hide your bump than stick a cute purse in front of it.

Or a bowl of soup. Another pair of my favorite pre-pregnancy leggings that work with or without a baby in your belly.

As you can see, I didn’t really wear any maternity clothes during my first trimester. While I did take out a few pairs of maternity jeans from my first pregnancy they didn’t start to really fit until about 14 weeks. Leggings, sweaters, and even some of your pre-pregnancy jeans should grow with you during those first few months. I’m excited to continue to share my pregnancy style with you! As always, let me know if you have any questions! xo
