Well happy Monday! We hope you had the best Easter. Ours was actually perfect. However, surprisingly we didn’t take that many pictures so today I’m going to chat about every toddler moms favorite topic – getting dressed!

If you are a mama of a little person less than two years old, spoiler alert – that small baby is soon going to develop very strong opinions on what they want to wear. I know most moms {and dads} dread it but it’s actually one of my favorite things about the stage we’re in. Annabelle is so enthusiastic about getting dressed and the girl knows what she likes. I love watching her personality develop and since fashion is such a big inspiration for me I think it’s so fun that she is expressing herself through her clothes too, just like her mama!

Now that it’s spring I feel like I can relax a little bit on guiding her towards what to wear {I don’t care how cute you are, jelly shoes in January in Michigan just are not going to be mom approved} and let her go wild. Luckily she already has a pretty great sense of style most days. Today I want to share a few tips for dressing your toddler that hopefully make everyone’s life easier {but mostly yours}.

1. Try to buy items that are versatile

When I’m shopping I try to look for clothes that will easily pair well with other items that we already have. And the more I can create coordinated separates, the better. Annabelle totally understood that this top and these pants matched and couldn’t wait to wear them together. They’ll also be perfect paired with other items, like jeans or t-shirts, so we’ll get even more wear out of them. And we both love the springy lemon print!

2. Think about fashion and function

While this is something I usually forget when it comes to myself, I’ve made it a mantra for the items I buy for Annabelle. While the high top sneakers with the laces might be super adorable I know that she’s going to get frustrated putting them on, especially if she can’t tie them herself. She actually asks me all the time when she will learn to tie shoes. 5? 6? What’s the going age for this skill? I have a curious toddler who’s waiting for an answer. These shoes are perfect because they are so easy for her to slip on and they’re equally just as cute. Plus the chambray makes them very versatile {see the previous tip} so they look good with basically anything she wears.

3. Pick your battles

Most days I’ll let Annabelle wear basically anything she wants, provided her underwear are not showing {a lady has to maintain some decency} and it’s weather appropriate. There are, however times when I have to put my foot down. Easter was a great example of this. She didn’t want to wear the dress I had picked out but for me it wasn’t negotiable. So when she asked to pair her black sneakers with the perfectly adorable dress I was forcing upon her, I agreed. I looked at it as a teaching moment in compromise and everyone was able to go to brunch happy {and very hopped up on sugar}.

Shout out to the bracelets that Annabelle decided to put around her ankle. I just love her creativity!
