These photos didn’t really fit into a post but I wanted to share them anyway. Thanks for following along on all of our adventures, I’m so excited that we have the entire summer to look forward to!
This PinkBlush maxi was perfect for the plane – so comfortable and it covered my legs so I didn’t get cold. I paired it with my Stan Smith sneakers, a utility jacket from JCrew Factory {similar here and on sale here}, and my Jadetribe tassel tote that you can get locally from SHE or online here or here.
Ken surprised me by booking first class for us. I felt so fancy and definitely had to take a picture of my breakfast. I watched about 7 movies on the way there {and if you have a small child you realize how that alone can feel like a vacation!}. Ken was teasing me because the first movie I watched was Moana but I hadn’t seen it and I thought it would get me in the mood for Hawaii!
I realize I look seriously tired here but I had to tell you that the first morning that we were in Maui we woke up suuuuper early around 4am and realized we needed to stock up on some essential items {like vodka and LaCroix} to have in our hotel room. I think Target opened at around 8am so we had to kill some time before we could even go but of course we’re thousands of miles from home and I find the nearest Target ASAP. You can find my outfit details here.
I had heard so much about shaved ice so I absolutely had to know what all of the fuss was about. This place came up time and time again {in all of my extensive Google searching} and it was amazing. It’s basically like a softer version of a snow cone with way more flavor. Anyone want to open a shaved ice stand in Detroit? I’ll be your best customer!
Ken got pineapple and vanilla, I think mine was pineapple and mango. Sooooo juicy and delicious!
On the day it rained we decided to take a drive along the coast. It was like what I would picture Ireland to look like – so lush and green. I didn’t expect so many foresty areas. It was just stunning. After we took this photo we got back in the car and did the unofficial Road to Hana. We ended up both getting car sick {which is hard to do when you’re actually driving the car, poor Ken!} and spent the rest of the day back at our hotel watching TV and eating room service.
My dress {under $20!} that I was willing to stay down.
When we’re traveling I use TripAdvisor a lot to find the best restaurants to eat. This food truck received really high ratings and it was parked just a few minutes away from our hotel. The food was really good and it’s always nice to have a more casual, less expensive meal option when you’re traveling.
Looking over one of the amazing pools at the Andaz.
Another shot of one of my favorite bikini tops for mixing and matching.
Can you believe that this is literally the only photo we took together the entire vacation? This guy. We’ve been married for 4 years next week and I just love him to pieces.
Ok, we took this one too 😉
My favorite meal of the trip – the Ahi Poke. I got it at the pool, twice!
A few other recommendations if you’re planning a trip to Maui!
- Rent a car unless you’re planning on just staying at your resort. There’s lots to explore and it’s nice to go at your own pace but there are also Uber’s on the island if you’re going to dinner or somewhere close.
- Our favorite dinner was at Monkeypod Kitchen. It was only a few minutes from our resort and the food and vibe were really amazing. If you go make sure to get a Mai Tai and save room for a slice {or 3!} of their famous cream pie.
- We stayed in Wailea and thought it was the perfect location. It was about 30 minutes from the airport and close to a few other resorts, restaurants, and shopping areas. Plus the beach and weather were just beautiful and I’ve heard other parts of the island can be a bit rainy.
